The Special Crime Investigation Unit of Nagpur Police, under the ongoing ‘Operation Shakti’ campaign, conducted two major raids in the city on Thursday to dismantle human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation networks. These actions were carried out under the directives of the Nagpur Police Commissioner to rescue victims and curb organized sex trade.
The first raid took place between 5:40 PM and 12:30 AM near Swag Stay Rahul Hotel, opposite Bus Stand Chowk, Ganeshpeth, where police arrested Sumit Ishwar Ghate (28), a resident of Shivalik Apartment, Hingna Road. Two other accused, identified as Rahul and Sachin, are absconding. During the operation, five women victims from outside Maharashtra were rescued. Officials seized ₹21,000 in cash and an Apple iPhone worth ₹70,000, with the total seizure amounting to ₹91,000. The accused had allegedly lured the women with promises of quick money and forced them into prostitution. The victims were provided medical examinations, and the case has been handed over to Ganeshpeth Police Station for further investigation.
The second raid was carried out between 3:55 PM and 9:30 PM at Dwell Stays Cocktail Camel Farm House, Ajni Village, New Kamptee. Police arrested Lata Vijay Belekar (65) of Kumbhare Colony and Ishan Prakash Bhoyar (21) of Pragati Nagar, while Amol Vijay Manawatkar of Kamptee is still absconding. Two women victims were rescued during this operation. Authorities recovered ₹1,500 in cash, three mobile phones, an attendance register, and two condom packets, bringing the total seizure to ₹15,433. The accused were allegedly involved in commercial sexual exploitation, and the rescued women have been provided medical and legal support.
The Nagpur Police Commissioner has instructed all hotels, spas, salons, and commercial establishments in the city to display anti-human trafficking pledge signage prominently within their premises. This initiative, part of Operation Shakti, aims to create awareness, prevent such crimes, and ensure the cooperation of all establishments. Authorities have urged immediate compliance with this directive.
