A newly opened rooftop club Romeo Lane in Deo Nagar has landed in controversy after videos allegedly showing foreign dancers performing went viral on social media. The incident has triggered public debate over the legality of rooftop clubs and whether the performers had proper permission to perform in India.
DCP Zone 1 Rushikesh Reddy confirmed that the police have begun an inquiry into the incident. “Those girls at Romeo Lane were allegedly invited as guests by the Romeo Lane owners. However, inquiry in the matter is going on and the outcome will be revealed,” said DCP Reddy.
Authorities are also scrutinizing whether Romeo Lane violated Maharashtra’s rooftop regulations. As per DCP Reddy:
“On the rooftop, no one is permitted to serve liquor. Generally in Maharashtra, rooftops are not specifically permitted. Based on a High Court judgment, we have taken a strict stance that rooftop operations cannot function. We have clearly instructed establishments to close rooftop areas and serve only on floor facilities. Any violations will be reported to the NMC, which issues these licenses.”
The police are verifying if the foreign performers had the required immigration and entertainment clearances and whether the club was operating without proper rooftop permissions. The findings of the ongoing investigation will decide the legal action against Romeo Lane.
