A woman lost her newborn at a hospital in Maharashtra’s Washim district on August 2. The family has alleged medical negligence by the hospital staff and is demanding strict action. They are calling for a case of culpable homicide to be filed against the doctors and staff, claiming the woman was treated in an “inhumane” manner during childbirth.
Shivani Vaibhav Gawhane, a resident of Palsakhed, was admitted to a hospital in Washim district around 3 am on August 2 for childbirth. Her family says doctors initially assured them that all reports were normal and the delivery was expected by 10 am.
However, they allege that despite Shivani being in labor and in severe pain throughout the night, no nurses or doctors responded to their repeated calls for help. According to the family, no medical staff checked on her between 3 am and 5 pm.
When her condition worsened around 5 pm, hospital staff finally attended to her, but by then it was too late. Shivani gave birth at 5:30 pm, but the newborn had no heartbeat and was declared dead.
