Residents of Ayodhya Nagar took to the streets to protest against the civic administration over the three-month-long closure of three approach roads and the continuous flow of sewage water into the Jambodip Nagar drain for the past two months. The open drain has become a major health hazard, with foul water flowing unchecked, while the construction of the drain slab has been left incomplete.
Residents alleged that the health officer behaves rudely with citizens and threatens them instead of resolving the issue. They demanded that the civic body immediately install the drain slab, open all three roads for public use, and stop the sewage water from entering the drain. They also demanded strict action and a departmental transfer for the concerned health officer for failing to address repeated complaints.
During the protest, zone officials, including a deputy engineer and junior engineer, visited the site. Citizens pointed out that a Pokland machine brought for the drain work has been parked on the road for three months, blocking one approach road. The second road has been closed by dumping soil, and the third road is inaccessible due to the ongoing drain work.
Residents warned that if the authorities fail to complete the work within eight days and stop the sewage flow within two days, they will intensify the agitation. They also stated that formal written complaints will be submitted to the Municipal Commissioner if action is not taken against the responsible officer.
Local citizens in large numbers participated in the protest, demanding immediate relief and the restoration of road connectivity in the area.
