Nagpur’s Dhantoli Police have filed a dowry harassment case against three members of a doctor’s family for allegedly mistreating their daughter-in-law. The accused are identified as Dr. Saphalatha Ambatkar (58), her husband Dr. Yashwant Ambatkar (60), and their son Dr. Suyash Ambatkar (32), all residents of Mile Stone Park, near Dhantoli Garden.
The complainant, Dr. Megha, who is also a medical practitioner, married Dr. Suyash on August 13, 2024. She alleged that shortly after the wedding, her husband began pressuring her to work and to bring a car from her parental home. Although her father later purchased a car, Dr. Suyash was reportedly upset because it was not registered in his name, following which the harassment allegedly intensified.
According to Dr. Megha, when her father sought the intervention of Dr. Yashwant, he was verbally abused. She further claimed that her mother-in-law pressured her to seek a divorce and accused her of falsely implicating Suyash.
Initially, Dr. Megha approached Dhantoli Police, who referred the matter to the Bharosa Cell. With no resolution reached, she lodged a fresh complaint, prompting police to register a case under relevant sections of the dowry harassment laws.
WPI Anamika Mirzapure stated that the investigation is ongoing and further action will be taken after evidence is gathered.
