As Nagpur gears up for the grand Ganesh festival from August 27, the city police and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) have rolled out strict rules to keep celebrations safe, respectful, and eco-friendly. The directives were finalised in a high-level coordination meeting at Kavivarya Suresh Bhat Auditorium with senior police officers, civic officials, and Ganesh mandal representatives.
Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinderkumar Singhal made it clear: DJs must keep sound within legal limits, and vulgar or obscene songs will face an outright ban. Indecent dancing in processions will also be strictly penalised. To prevent traffic chaos during immersion processions, every participating vehicle will be fitted with GPS tracking.
On the civic front, the NMC is pushing for eco-friendly idols, discouraging single-use plastics, and setting up multiple artificial ponds to protect natural water bodies. Volunteers and security personnel will be stationed at immersion sites to ensure safety and order.
Officials warned that violators—whether it’s noise pollution, illegal sound systems, or littering—will face strict legal action. Ganesh mandals have been urged to take responsibility for ensuring discipline among their participants.
This year, the administration’s focus is clear: celebrate with devotion, but without disturbing the city’s peace or harming the environment. As the countdown begins, Nagpur is ready to welcome Bappa with music, faith, and a strong dose of civic responsibility.
Key arrangements and directives announced in the meeting include:
Over 400 artificial ponds across the city for idol immersion.
GPS tracking for immersion procession vehicles to prevent traffic congestion.
Procession permissions to be taken in advance for idol installation.
Free registration and waiver of all civic fees for Ganesh Mandals.
Nirmalya (flower offering) collection through dedicated NMC vehicles.
Avoidance of laser lights during immersion processions.
Social service activities like blood donation, aid to poor students, book distribution, and addiction awareness campaigns encouraged.
