Nagpur’s Public Works Department (PWD) is once again in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. This time, a woman branch engineer from Ravi Nagar has levelled serious allegations against Sub-Divisional Engineer (SDE) Sanjay Upadhye, accusing him of sidelining her and continuing to get work done through an engineer who was transferred months ago.
According to her written complaint to the Chief Engineer, even after her posting in June, the branch’s projects are still being handled by the former engineer. “Not only am I kept away from my own work, but I’ve also been told to ‘just watch’ and let the old engineer handle things,” she claimed. The Ravi Nagar branch covers over 800 government residences, yet when residents approach her with issues, she’s told it’s “not her concern.”
Acting on her complaint, Executive Engineer Laxmikant Raulkar has issued a show-cause notice to Upadhye, giving him three days to respond.
The allegations don’t stop there. She says Upadhye is often absent during office hours, only calling her to his office at 6 pm—where “several outsiders” are present and his behaviour is “highly rude.” On August 6, she claims she found the office locked, and it was the old engineer—not the SDE—who opened it.
The complainant has requested a transfer, stating that if her health deteriorates, Upadhye should be held responsible. This fresh controversy adds yet another chapter to PWD’s long list of internal disputes and questionable practices.
