Residents of Beltarodi have voiced strong opposition to a proposed country liquor manufacturing unit reportedly coming up in the area, citing concerns over public safety, law and order, and the impact on the residential character of the locality. A group of residents recently approached the office of Guardian Minister and Kamptee MLA Chandrashekhar Bawankule, along with other government authorities, seeking intervention to stop the project.
In a memorandum submitted to Bawankule’s office, residents said they had received information from local sources about the proposed unit and demanded complete details, approvals and official documents related to the project. They asserted that the community was unanimously opposed to the establishment of a liquor manufacturing facility in a predominantly residential neighbourhood.
According to the memorandum, the area is home to hundreds of families, including women, children and senior citizens. Residents argued that setting up a country liquor unit close to residential colonies would adversely affect the social environment and raise safety concerns.
They further claimed that the facility could attract antisocial elements and increase the likelihood of unlawful activities in the vicinity. Residents also pointed out that several schools, educational institutions and places of worship are located near the proposed site. Urging authorities to act in the larger public interest, they demanded that any licence, permission or approval granted for the project be revoked.
Resident Priya Manpiya said locals became aware of the proposal after noticing construction activity in the area. “We approached the minister’s office, where officials advised us to meet the district collector. We will be meeting the collector on Monday and request immediate action,” she said.
The memorandum also highlighted concerns that the proposed unit could lead to disturbances, altercations and other nuisance, particularly during evening and night hours. Residents expressed apprehension that increased movement of vehicles linked to the facility could aggravate traffic congestion on internal roads and create inconvenience for pedestrians and local residents.
Apart from submitting a memorandum to the guardian minister’s office, residents have also approached Beltarodi Police Station and the Besa-Pipla Nagar Panchayat, seeking intervention against the proposed project.
