The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked all affiliated schools to step up efforts to promote cyber safety and digital awareness among students, teachers and parents as part of a nationwide campaign against cybercrime.
In a circular issued on June 8, CBSE said the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has launched a comprehensive awareness programme to address the growing threat of cyber fraud and online crimes, particularly those affecting children and teenagers.
The board highlighted that incidents of cyberbullying, online grooming, identity theft, financial scams and digital harassment are on the rise as young people spend increasing amounts of time online. Schools have therefore been urged to educate students about safe internet practices and the responsible use of digital platforms.
As part of the campaign, schools have been advised to encourage students, parents and staff members to enrol in a 2.5-hour Cyber Hygiene Certificate Course hosted on the I4C portal. They have also been asked to promote a Cyber Safety Pledge aimed at fostering responsible online behaviour and awareness of cyber threats. To sustain engagement, CBSE has recommended the establishment of Cyber Clubs in schools. These clubs can organise activities such as quizzes, debates, poster competitions, awareness rallies and pledge-taking programmes focused on cyber security.
The board has also designated the first Wednesday of every month as “Cyber Jagrookta Diwas”, during which schools are expected to conduct awareness drives and educational activities related to cyber safety. In addition, schools have been instructed to prominently display cyber safety advisories on parent communication platforms and circulate awareness resources prepared by the Ministry of Home Affairs, including posters, videos, booklets and comic books.
CBSE said the initiative is intended to build a culture of cyber awareness in educational institutions and equip students and their families with the skills needed to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly.
