The first phase of the Census house-listing exercise has highlighted the city’s rapid urban expansion over the past 15 years. Preliminary data indicates that Nagpur’s population has increased by more than 3.6 lakh, while the number of houses has grown by nearly 40 percent compared to 2011.More than 7.7 lakh houses have been registered across the city during the survey, which was completed through extensive door-to-door verification.
Census officials said the exercise received an encouraging response from citizens, with many residents also utilizing the self-enumeration facility introduced through an online platform.For the first time, the entire house-listing process was conducted digitally using a mobile application.
Enumerators recorded responses to 33 key questions covering housing conditions, amenities, family details, and demographic information. Officials believe the updated data will play a crucial role in planning Nagpur’s future infrastructure, housing, transport, and civic services.
