A leopard that had been repeatedly preying on cattle in Mohgaon Zilpi, including lifting a calf from the cowshed of MLA Sandeep Joshi’s cowshelter, was successfully captured and released back into the wild on August 15.
The leopard, which had become a regular threat to livestock in the area, was trapped in a cage installed by the forest department. On the same day, after due observation and treatment, it was released into its natural habitat.
The operation was carried out with the coordinated efforts of the Transit Treatment Centre team and the Hingna Forest Range staff. Forest officials confirmed that the leopard was in good health at the time of release and expressed hope that this intervention will reduce the human-wildlife conflict in the region.
Authorities further appealed to local residents to remain vigilant and immediately report any fresh sightings of leopards near human settlements to prevent future incidents.
