Commuters experienced smoother travel on Wednesday as Nagpur Traffic Police intensified their drive against private buses violating the city entry ban within the Inner Ring Road.

By evening, action was taken against 27 buses — 12 booked under Sections 223 and 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and 15 under the Motor Vehicles Act for illegal parking. Except for Ajni, violations were reported across all traffic zones, with Sitabuldi, Cotton Market, and Lakadganj recording five cases each.

The ban, which restricts private buses from parking or picking up passengers inside city limits, was recently issued to ease congestion. However, bus operators challenged the order in the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court. The court has directed senior state and city officials, including the Home Department, DGP (Transport), Transport Commissioner, Nagpur Police Commissioner, and RTO, to submit their responses within two days.
Officials maintained that most operators lack designated parking or boarding facilities, forcing enforcement of strict action to streamline city traffic.
