Despite several legal provisions and repeated directives issued from time to time, the menace of stray dogs in the city continues to trouble citizens for years. Residents are still forced to face attacks and harassment from stray dogs, raising serious concerns about public safety.
The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has now questioned why no effective action has been taken so far and why officials responsible for curbing the menace should not face accountability. The court was hearing a petition highlighting the dangers posed by the uncontrolled stray dog population.
During the hearing, the judges observed that although guidelines and mechanisms are available, the administration has failed to act decisively. The court has sought a detailed explanation from the municipal corporation and police authorities by September 9.
The petitioners argued that the unchecked growth of stray dogs has become a grave threat to society and demanded urgent measures to control the situation. With the court’s intervention, citizens now hope for stronger and more effective action to resolve the issue.
