Nagpur: The New Kamptee Police foiled a drug smuggling attempt and seized 21.4 kilograms of ganja worth ₹2.75 lakh, arresting two youths from Madhya Pradesh after a dramatic chase on Friday, August 22.
According to officials, between 1:54 pm and 4:35 pm, traffic branch personnel were deployed at Bus Stand Square, New Kamptee, when they signaled two suspicious men riding a Bajaj Pulsar (CG 04 CA 2017) to stop. Instead, the duo sped away, prompting a chase that ended at Kalamna T-Point public road, where they were overpowered.
The arrested accused were identified as Abhishek Lakhansing Lodhi (21), resident of Subhash Nagar, Vidisha (MP) and Ayush Arvind Sharma (19), resident of Shriram Nagar, Vidisha (MP). A search of their bags led to the recovery of 21.4 kg of ganja. Police also seized their motorcycle, mobile phones, and two school bags.
During interrogation, the duo admitted they were delivering the consignment to their associates — Tariq Parvez, Umesh Ramteke, and Faizan Ansari, all residents of Old Kamptee, Nagpur. The accused were allegedly engaged in drug peddling for financial gain.
Based on the seizure, a case has been registered at New Kamptee Police Station under Sections 8(c), 20(b)(2)(c), and 29 of the NDPS Act. Both accused have been taken into custody and further investigation is underway to trace the supply network.
The action was carried out under the supervision of DCP Niketan Kadam (Zone V) and ACP Vishal Kshirsagar (Kamptee Division). The team included API Mahesh Andhale, PSI Sachin Yadav, PSI Sandeep Bhitale, and personnel from the traffic branch.
