Nagpur: Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Singal has issued strict guidelines for pet owners in the city, warning them against letting their dogs roam without a leash or muzzle during morning and evening walks.
The directive follows a surge in dog bite incidents and complaints from citizens about pets being left uncontrolled on streets and in municipal gardens.
According to the order, pet owners must attach their names and addresses to their dogs’ collars. Dogs found without proper identification will be treated as strays, and legal action will be taken against their owners.
Dr. Singal emphasized that while pets must wear a muzzle or net during walks, it should be fitted comfortably to ensure dogs can breathe without difficulty. Any dog found in public without a muzzle will be classified as a stray and dealt with accordingly.
The commissioner also reiterated that feeding dogs in public spaces is prohibited. Citizens are permitted to feed stray dogs only at designated feeding zones approved by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).
