Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Suzuki Motor Plant in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Tuesday to inaugurate the local production of hybrid battery electrodes and launch the export of Maruti Suzuki’s first global battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e VITARA, to over 100 countries, including Japan and several European nations.
At around 10:30 am, PM Modi inaugurated the production at the TDS Lithium-Ion Battery plant, a joint venture between Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki, and flagged off the BEV exports from the Hansalpur plant. This development marks a major milestone for India’s electric vehicle (EV) and battery ecosystem, with over 80% of battery value now manufactured domestically, furthering the country’s clean energy and manufacturing objectives.
The e VITARA, unveiled by Maruti Suzuki in January 2025 during the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, will now enter commercial production at Hansalpur. With an annual production capacity of 2.6 million units across four plants in India, Maruti Suzuki exported over 3.32 lakh vehicles and sold 19.01 lakh units domestically in FY25. This initiative establishes India as Suzuki’s global manufacturing hub for electric vehicles.
These moves align with the government’s vision of making India a global hub for electric mobility, advanced manufacturing, and infrastructure development, reinforcing the goal of Aatmanirbhar Bharat in green energy.
In addition, PM Modi is set to dedicate railway projects worth around ₹1,400 crore, including the ₹530 crore doubling of the 65 km Mahesana-Palanpur railway line, further boosting infrastructure development in the region.
