Nagpur: The much-delayed repair of the Manakapura flyover finally saw progress as a 30-metre slab across two spans was laid late Saturday night with around 30 workers on site. Heavy rains on Sunday evening helped the curing, but officials admit another 10 days of curing and a load test are still pending before traffic can resume.
This comes after cracks were detected in April right above Manakapura Square, forcing closure of one lane and choking traffic with diversions below. The repair dragged on despite a 100-day deadline, later extended by 15 days, yet commuters continue to suffer daily snarls. Authorities now claim vehicles may be allowed in two weeks, but skepticism runs high.
The flyover, linking Manakapura Stadium to Farsa, was built in 2014 by Oriental Construction Company. Under the Defect Liability Period, the same contractor had to fix the damage at no cost. But the fact that a structure barely a decade old needed major repair has raised questions about construction quality and oversight.
Until the lane reopens, chaos at Mankapur Square and service roads will persist. Citizens are demanding accountability, insisting that delays and repeated closures cannot become the new normal for Nagpur’s infrastructure.
