A major crackdown was carried out by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) against the illegal sale of analog paneer being sold in the city under the name of regular paneer. Acting on a tip-off, a team raided a shop in Wardhaman Nagar on Saturday and destroyed 231 kg of paneer worth ?61,000. Along with this, 82 kg of khoya was also seized.
According to officials, the shopkeeper was selling analog paneer to customers by claiming it to be genuine dairy paneer. Samples have been collected and sent for laboratory testing. Further legal action will be taken based on the test results.
Authorities have stated that such raids will continue across the city to curb the widespread sale of spurious dairy products. Teams are targeting shops that indulge in the illegal trade of analog paneer, which is being sold as regular paneer in the market.
As per reports, analog paneer is prepared by mixing imported palm oil and milk powder with starch, instead of using pure milk. This gives it the appearance of paneer but lacks nutritional value. Such paneer is cheaper to produce and is often sold to unsuspecting customers, posing health risks when consumed.
Officials have appealed to citizens to remain alert and avoid purchasing suspiciously cheap paneer and khoya.
