Nagpur: A 10-day selection camp for the probable Indian gymnastics team commenced on Thursday at the Taluka Sports Complex, Koradi. The camp, organised by the Gymnastics Association Nagpur, will run from September 5 to 15, and the final team for the 14th Asian Acrobatic Gymnastics Championship scheduled in Goa this November will be chosen from here.
Announcing the details at a press conference, association president Subhash Gangreddiwar said the Indian Gymnastics Federation is holding selection camps in four categories. While the junior and senior camps are being conducted in Nagpur, the pre-youth and youth camps are underway in Mysuru, Karnataka.
From Nagpur, Abhaya Thakre, Anushka Madhumatke, Tanay Dhopade, Aditya Patil, Akshani Thackeray, Garima Vardhe, and Sambodhi Hirekhan have been named in the junior probable list. Mukesh Ghyar of Nagpur has been appointed as the junior team coach. However, no city player has found a place in the senior probables.
Association secretary Purushottam Darvankar, along with coaches Mukesh Ghyar and Prachi Parkhi, were also present at the briefing.
