Nagpur police have unearthed a fraudulent job racket linked to Maharashtra’s Mantralaya in Mumbai, exposing serious lapses in security within the state administrative headquarters.
Based on a complaint lodged by a victim, Hudkeshwar police arrested one accused while six others remain absconding. Investigators revealed that a seven-member gang duped a young job seeker of ₹79.55 lakh by luring him with a junior clerk position. To make the scam appear genuine, the fraudsters even staged a bogus interview inside the Mantralaya premises, convincing the aspirant to hand over the large sum.
The arrested accused has been identified as Lawrence Henry (45), a resident of Mahalgi Nagar, Nagpur. Those on the run include Shilpa Udapur (40), Vasantkumar alias Vasantrao Udapur (60), Vijay Patankar (40), Nitin Sathe (41), Sachin Dolas (45), and a peon.
The case has raised fresh concerns over security arrangements at Mantralaya, as the accused were able to operate within the premises undetected. Police have launched a manhunt to trace the absconding suspects, while further probe is in progress.
