Nagpur: Tension gripped Kamptee on Saturday morning, after the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) detained two local residents for their alleged connections with individuals in Pakistan.
According to sources, the duo had first been picked up for questioning a couple of days earlier and released the same day. On Saturday, ATS officials again took them into custody for further interrogation.
The Nagpur unit of ATS carried out the operation at dawn. Investigators said both men had been living in Kamptee for a considerable time and were highly active on social media. Intelligence inputs suggested they were in contact with certain people in Pakistan through these platforms, prompting their detention. The suspects were later taken to the ATS office in Nagpur for detailed questioning.
This development follows a recent incident during Operation Sindoor, when a woman from the Kapil Nagar police jurisdiction allegedly crossed the Line of Control (LoC) from Kargil into Pakistan. She, too, is believed to have established contact with Pakistani nationals via social media and was subsequently detained by Pakistani Rangers.
Authorities have not released the identities of the two Kamptee residents, and investigations are ongoing.
