In a major push to promote film production and employment opportunities in Vidarbha, the Maharashtra government has decided to transfer 60 acres of land for the proposed Film City in Ramtek within the next 15 days. Cultural Affairs Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar announced that a Project Management Consultant will also be appointed soon to oversee the development of the Film City.
Shelar, along with Finance and Planning Minister and local MLA Adv. Ashish Jaiswal, visited the proposed site at Navargaon near Ramtek and later chaired a review meeting at the government guest house. “The project, initiated under the leadership and guidance of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, aims to provide a strong platform for local artists and generate large-scale employment through film production in the region,” Shelar said. He confirmed that necessary discussions with the Revenue Department have been completed and the District Collector will soon initiate the transfer process.
Development Around Ramtek Fort Temple
The Minister also revealed that within 10 days, the State Archaeology Department will issue a no-objection certificate (NOC) for upgrading amenities at the historic Ramtek Fort Temple premises. The proposed facilities include toilets, shops, and resting areas for devotees, while maintaining the site’s heritage value. He further emphasized that 3% of the District Annual Planning Fund, earmarked for heritage conservation, will be strictly monitored to ensure it is fully utilized for this purpose.
To expedite 23 developmental and beautification works under the proposed “Ramtek Temple Heritage Corridor” project, a dedicated desk will soon be set up in Mantralaya. These projects will be included in the upcoming state budget and implemented with financial support from the Finance Department.
Shelar also announced plans to revive the “Ancient Heritage Sites of Mansar” project, which covers 156 acres of archaeological monuments. A detailed proposal will be prepared and personally presented to the Union Minister of Culture to accelerate the project.
The annual Shri Ram Cultural Festival, held on January 22 in Ramtek, will receive financial and administrative approval within 15 days, Shelar confirmed.
Preserving Heritage While Promoting Development
Minister of State for Finance and Planning Adv. Ashish Jaiswal said that the twin initiatives of Ramtek Film City and conservation of 34 protected monuments (including five under the Archaeological Survey of India) will ensure that the region’s cultural heritage is preserved while promoting economic development.
