A shocking case has come to light in Nagpur where a Patwari allegedly committed suicide after being accused in a major land scam involving government land. The matter pertains to Bhivapur-based land where layouts were illegally prepared and plots sold worth crores of rupees. Following the High Court’s order, an investigation was launched, and the Patwari was held responsible. Unable to prove his innocence, he ended his life on September 12, 2025.
The controversy dates back to 1962 when around 60 acres of land in Mouza Ajni was acquired for the irrigation department. Despite the acquisition, the land records (7/12 extracts) continued to show ownership under private names. Taking advantage of this, layouts were created and plots were sold illegally.
During the probe, it was revealed that the Patwari had certified the 7/12 extracts and revenue documents that enabled the land to be shown as privately held, paving the way for sale of government land. Allegations state that the Patwari colluded in preparing fake records for Gat Numbers 116/2, 116/3, 117/2, and other portions of Mouza Ajni.
The Tehsildar’s office had directed the police to register an FIR after complaints were lodged about the land scam. The accused Patwari, facing mounting pressure and unable to establish his innocence, died by suicide.
This incident has raised serious concerns about manipulation of land records and the ease with which government land was turned into plots and sold to unsuspecting buyers.
