Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) celebrated its 23rd Convocation with grandeur on Monday, recognizing the outstanding achievements of graduating students in engineering, architecture, and science. The ceremony commenced with an academic procession at the institute auditorium, followed by the formal welcome of the Chief Guest, Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, a renowned educationist and former Director of IIT Kanpur and Professor at IIT Bombay. Shri Madhubushi Madan Gopal, Chairperson of VNIT’s Board of Governors, and Director Dr. Prem Lal Patel were also present on the dais.
In his address, Director Dr. Patel presented the institute’s annual report, highlighting the accomplishments of students, faculty, and alumni. He recalled VNIT’s legacy inspired by Sir M. Visvesvaraya and urged graduates to contribute to Viksit Bharat 2047 through innovation and service. Emphasizing lifelong learning and alumni engagement, he called upon the graduating class to uphold the institute’s tradition of excellence and to play a pivotal role in shaping India’s future.
Chief Guest Prof. Karandikar, in his convocation address, congratulated the graduates and underscored the importance of discipline, vision, and social responsibility as exemplified by Sir M. Visvesvaraya. He lauded VNIT’s contributions to education, research, and industry collaborations, especially in emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence, green hydrogen, and sustainable agriculture. Stressing the need for inclusive innovation and responsible use of AI, he highlighted the government’s ₹1 lakh crore research and innovation fund, and encouraged young minds to take leadership in India’s technological advancement while promoting women-led STEM initiatives.
This year, a total of 1,227 degrees were conferred across disciplines, including 763 Bachelor of Technology, 59 Bachelor of Architecture, 271 Master of Technology, 63 Master of Science, 70 Doctoral degrees, and one M.Tech by Research. The prestigious Sir Visvesvaraya Gold Medal was awarded to Shenoy Siddhesh Vinay (B.Tech, ECE) for academic excellence.
