In a move set to transform Nagpur’s development map, the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) has been granted rights to 232.17 hectares of MAHAGENCO land to build a world-class eco-tourism hub — at a token lease of just ₹1 per year for 30 years.
The project site spans five key locations — Koradi, Mahadula, Khaparkheda, Nanda (Kamptee), and Ghogli (Nagpur Gramin). Development will be carried out directly on these lands, strategically located near reservoirs and thermal power plants, offering the perfect blend of industrial backdrop and natural assets.
Plans include non-motorized boating such as paddle boats, kayaks and eco-shikaras, along with floating decks, birdwatching platforms, and nature education tours. The hub is expected to become a signature attraction while generating local employment and promoting community participation.
While MAHAGENCO will retain control of its power stations and STPs, NMRDA has been given exclusive rights to use pond surfaces for eco-tourism activities, ensuring smooth coexistence of industrial and tourism functions. Officials stress that strict sustainability norms will be followed.
The MoU has been formally approved by the MAHAGENCO board, ensuring financial and administrative backing. The signing was witnessed by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Minister of State Madhuri Misal, Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar, and senior bureaucrats, reflecting the high-level political and institutional support for the project.
