Mumbai: The Maharashtra cabinet on September 16 approved the revised blueprint and implementation of the Con-Gadchiroli-Bhandara Controlled Access Highway Project, to be undertaken by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).
The ambitious project, estimated at ₹931.15 crore including land acquisition, is expected to significantly enhance connectivity in eastern Vidarbha by linking Gadchiroli with Gondia, Nagpur and Bhandara districts.
Once completed, the new highway alignment will shorten the route by 23 kilometres and reduce travel time by nearly 75 minutes, providing faster and more efficient transport for commuters and goods movement in the region.
The decision builds on the state government’s earlier resolution dated December 27, 2023, which focused on strengthening Vidarbha’s road infrastructure. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis cleared the final design at the cabinet meeting, paving the way for execution of the project.
Officials said the upgraded road corridor will not only boost regional connectivity but also promote economic growth and improve accessibility to remote areas of Gadchiroli, often regarded as one of Maharashtra’s most underdeveloped districts.
