After remaining closed for 125 days, one lane of the Mankapur flyover was finally opened for traffic late on the night of September 16–17. The lane had been shut after a tragic accident on September 12, when a school van and a school bus collided, killing two people.
Although NHAI had set a deadline of September 20 to reopen the lane, the work was completed earlier. About four months ago, traffic on the 100-foot road was diverted to allow repair work. However, the actual repairs faced delays. Initially, only a 10-meter stretch was to be fixed, but later it was decided to reconstruct the entire upper deck of the flyover by laying four new steel plates. Continuous rainfall further delayed the work, as proper curing of the concrete could not be done.
Finally, the repair and concreting work was completed, and the lane was opened for vehicular movement, bringing relief to daily commuters. While the up lane has now been restored, the plastic dividers installed earlier on the down lane have still not been removed.
