The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has implemented an online attendance system for its sanitation workers through its Information and Technology Department. From Tuesday, the presence of all 5,314 sanitation workers will now be recorded digitally.
The system was reviewed on Wednesday morning by Additional Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Mohan along with the Information and Technology Department. During the inspection, it was informed that the attendance of workers will be recorded via a facial recognition app.
Currently, 444 biometric attendance stands are in use across the city. These cover around 1,500 workers daily, while the remaining workers’ attendance will now be recorded through the new mobile app.
The new system was initially launched on a pilot basis in Dharampeth Zone three months ago. After successful trials, it is now being rolled out across all zones. Each sanitation inspector has been given the responsibility to ensure proper attendance of staff in their respective zones.
Attendance records will now be accessible online, and supervisors will be able to monitor them in real time. Workers will have to mark attendance at designated stands located in different areas, including Lakkadganj, Hanuman Nagar, Satranjipura, Ashi Nagar, and other zones.
This move is expected to streamline attendance tracking, ensure transparency in workforce management, and prevent misuse of the system.
