Stepping up the fight against human trafficking and sexual exploitation, Nagpur City Police have expanded Operation Shakti with a strong focus on community participation through their new initiative ‘Police–Samuday Samvad’.
The drive, conceived by Commissioner of Police Dr. R. Singhal and coordinated on the ground by DCP (Economic Offences Wing) Mahak Swami, seeks to turn residents into vigilant partners in preventing sex trafficking at the neighbourhood level.

Over 1,400 Residents Already Engaged
Introduced during the Ganesh Chaturthi period, the campaign plans 50 community meetings across all police-station limits. To date, 21 sessions have been completed, attracting more than 1,400 participants. Held in open public areas, these gatherings create direct interaction between police personnel and local citizens.

Key focus areas include:
• Recognising early indicators of sex trafficking and child abuse
• Identifying and reporting suspicious movements in homes or business premises
• Volunteering to assist anti-trafficking operations under Operation Shakti
Strong Neighbourhood Response
Officials highlight an encouraging turnout in Hudkeshwar, Wathoda, Ajni, Imamwada, Panchpaoli, Kalamna, Jaripatka, Kapil Nagar, Mankapur, Koradi, Sadar and Gittikhadan. Residents in many of these areas have offered to independently organise future meetings, signalling a growing sense of community ownership.
Community Vigilance Key to Prevention

With prostitution increasingly shifting from traditional red-light districts to residential colonies and commercial hubs, police say local vigilance is now essential. The outreach programme complements city-wide awareness efforts such as ‘Police Didi’ and ‘Police Kaka’, which target schools and colleges.
“This initiative is not just about enforcement—it’s about creating a movement,” noted DCP Mahak Swami. “Nagpurkars are stepping forward as changemakers.” Commissioner Dr. R. Singhal added, “When communities are equipped with the right tools and awareness, they become the first line of defence against human trafficking.”
By strengthening ties between law enforcement and citizens, Nagpur Police aim to build a city-wide shield against sex trafficking, ensuring safer neighbourhoods for women and children.
