On the occasion of International Microorganism Day 2025, the Department of Microbiology, Seth Kesarimal Porwal College, Kamptee, in collaboration with the Microbiologists Society, India (MBSI), organized an intensive Hands-on Workshop on Microscopy and PCR Techniques.
The workshop drew enthusiastic participation from 57 students, including 31 from Samarth Mahavidyalaya, Lakhani, and 26 from Porwal College, Kamptee. The event was inaugurated in the presence of Dr. Alok R. Rai, Head, Department of Microbiology, who stressed the significance of microbes in science and the necessity of practical training for budding microbiologists.
A highlight of the program was the session by Dr. Kailash Karale of GMC, Nagpur, a noted PCR expert, who provided conceptual clarity and live demonstrations of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Students also gained first-hand training in advanced microscopic techniques under the guidance of Mr. Suraj Kombe and Dr. Deepti Bhabra, which added valuable laboratory experience to their learning.
In the Valedictory Session, Dr. Manish Chakravarti encouraged participants to strengthen their hands-on skills, noting that such training is essential to building confidence for higher studies and research pursuits. The session also featured the Prize Distribution Ceremony of the quiz competition “Micro Quest: Unlocking the World of Microbes.” Winners included Ms. Bushra Firdaus (B.Sc. I Year), Ms. Mitali Sharma (B.Sc. II Year), Ms. Pooja Nirmalkar (B.Sc. III Year), Ms. Sabika Haidry (M.Sc. I Year), and Ms. Afifa Saba (M.Sc. II Year), all of whom were felicitated with mementos and certificates.

The smooth conduct of the program was ensured by coordinators Ms. Prerna Chachere and Ms. Payal Gandhale (faculty at Samarth Mahavidyalaya), along with Dr. Neha Deshattiwar, Dr. Deepti Bhabra, Dr. Rahul Bhende, Ms. Tarkeswari Madavi, Ms. Sweta Chawala, Ms. Pallavi Vighe, Ms. Mahima Falke, Mr. Shyam Barapatre, and Mr. Shailesh Ramteke.
The event concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. Suraj V. Kombe, Convener of the Workshop, who acknowledged the contributions of the resource persons, coordinators, and student participants. The workshop was widely appreciated as a significant step toward promoting academic collaboration, skill-based education, and research-oriented learning in microbiology.
