Gadchiroli Police in collaboration with the Zilla Parishad Gadchiroli, conducted a special literacy campaign under Project Sanjeevani, benefiting a total of 106 surrendered Maoists.
Since the state government announced the Surrender Policy in 2005, many senior and hardcore Maoists have laid down arms due to disillusionment with violence and the effective implementation of anti-Maoist operations. So far, 716 Maoists have surrendered before Gadchiroli Police, including 67 between 2022 and 2025. This year alone, 34 Maoists have surrendered.
To ensure surrendered Maoists are rehabilitated and reintegrated into mainstream society, Gadchiroli Police regularly organize various initiatives. As part of this effort, a literacy campaign was launched from September 8 to September 21, 2025 coinciding with World Literacy Day. Under this drive, 106 surrendered Maoists were provided lessons in basic reading, writing, arithmetic, and digital literacy, along with practical knowledge for daily life.
On September 21, 2025, a literacy test was conducted for 42 participants at the Eklavya Hall, Police Headquarters. Those who passed received literacy certificates, making them eligible for 5th and 8th standard examinations. This will further open pathways to employment, self-employment, and future education opportunities. Additionally, special classes will be arranged for those eligible for 8th and 10th standard exams.
