The members of Rani Laxmibai Durga Utsav Mandal are all set to celebrate the 19th edition of their annual Navratri festival, which draws massive participation not only from Nagpur but from across Vidarbha. Since its inception in 2006, the festival has showcased a variety of socio-cultural programmes addressing key social issues such as India’s freedom struggle, illiteracy, autism, and child labour.
Over the years, the mandal has hosted a galaxy of dignitaries who appreciated the elaborate decorations and the socially conscious programmes. Notable visitors have included yesteryear actress Asha Parekh, Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and former Rajya Sabha MPs Ajay Sancheti and Vijay Darda, among others.
Starting from humble beginnings, the mandal has grown to become the only one in Central India to host Navratri with such a wide array of socio-cultural activities, attracting over 50,000 visitors per day. A dedicated team of around 50 members, combining youthful energy with experience, works tirelessly around the clock to ensure the event’s success. News coverage in various newspapers highlights the mandal’s consistent efforts.
The mandal also maintains a digital presence, being the first in Vidarbha to have a dedicated website—www.laxminagardurga.in—alongside active social media pages on Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms.
Beyond Navratri, the mandal engages in year-round social initiatives, including visits to Matoshree Old Age Home near Adasa, providing medicines and food grains, supporting orphanages with books and study material, and creating artificial tanks on Laxmi Nagar volleyball grounds for Ganesh idol immersion to prevent water pollution.
This year, the festival will feature the theme “Wheels of Divine Light”. Mandal President Prasanna Mohile will brief the media on the theme and the planned activities. The mandal has also extended an invitation to the public to visit the pandal with family and friends to help make this year’s celebration as successful as previous editions.
