Nagpur: The city has witnessed a noticeable decline in serious crimes since the launch of Operation U-Turn by Nagpur Police in July 2025. A comparative analysis of police data for July–September 2025 against the same period in 2024 highlights significant improvements in several crime categories.
As per official figures, murder cases fell by 33.3%, coming down from 21 in 2024 to 14 in 2025. Attempt to murder cases dropped from 49 to 43, showing a decline of 12.2%.
Property-related crimes also registered a fall. House breaking thefts reduced by 8.5% (280 to 256), while overall theft cases saw a 16.2% decrease, from 708 in 2024 to 593 in 2025. Within this category, motor vehicle thefts dipped by 12.6% (474 to 414) and other thefts fell sharply by 23.5% (234 to 179).
Street-level crimes like snatching and robbery reduced by 13.3%, with cases falling from 45 to 39. Road safety indicators also showed progress, as fatal accident deaths dropped by 27.8%—from 79 in 2024 to 57 this year.
However, one area showed a slight upward trend. Cases of assault (‘hurts’) increased by 4.7%, rising from 234 to 245 in the comparative period.
Police officials credit the fall in crime to strict enforcement measures, enhanced patrolling, and improved surveillance introduced under Operation U-Turn. They added that sustained efforts and public cooperation will be crucial to maintain the positive trend.
