The city will soon witness a unique cultural celebration as the ‘Jagar Sharadecha… Rang Mehndicha’ festival begins on Sunday, October 5. The seven-day event, conceptualized by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and organized by the MP Cultural Festival Committee, will continue until October 12 across Nagpur.
The initiative aims to promote art, literature, and culture, while providing a platform for hundreds of mehndi artists to showcase their creativity. Over the years, the festival has also opened livelihood opportunities for many young women.
This year, nearly 450 locations across Nagpur will feature mehndi artists demonstrating their skills. Notably, the team of internationally acclaimed mehndi artist Sunita Dhote, whose work has been recognized in the Guinness Book of Records, will also participate. The artists will design mehndi on women’s hands at various Sharadotsav mandals.
Speaking about the initiative, Manisha Kashikar, member of the MP Cultural Festival Committee, said the festival reflects devotion to the Goddess of Knowledge through art. Committee president Prof. Anil Sole and secretary Jayprakash Gupta have urged women and Sharadotsav mandals to take part in large numbers.
To ensure smooth coordination, the BJP Nagpur City Mahila Aghadi will oversee the event across six assembly constituencies. Under the leadership of Divya Dhurde (President), Vandana Sharma (General Secretary), Manisha Atkare, Dr. Vishakha Joshi, Anita Kashikar, Mohini Ramteke, and Swati Akhatkar, women’s wings in different mandals will manage the arrangements.
Area coordinators have already been appointed across East, Central, South, North, West, and South-West Nagpur to facilitate the celebrations.
The festival is expected to attract wide participation, transforming the city into a hub of cultural expression through the traditional art of mehndi.
