A leopard has been spotted roaming freely in the MIHAN (Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur) area near the city. The animal was captured on a mobile camera by security personnel at a nearby warehouse. The video quickly went viral on social media, creating panic and fear among residents and employees in the vicinity.
Following the viral footage, the Nagpur Forest Department has taken serious note of the incident. Officials have installed camera traps in different parts of the MIHAN region to monitor the animal’s movements. The forest department teams from Hingna, Butibori, and Seminary Hills ranges have been instructed to maintain surveillance and keep track of the leopard’s location.
The MIHAN area borders these three forest zones, making it a potential corridor for wild animals. In 2021, leopards were also spotted roaming near the IT Park, Agriculture University, and Maharashtra Bhavan area. Similarly, leopards have been seen around Gorewada and other forested patches surrounding the city.
With several IT and corporate offices, including TCS, as well as hospitals located in MIHAN, the area sees significant night-time activity from employees and visitors. The presence of a leopard in such an active zone has caused anxiety and concern. Citizens and workers have urged the authorities to capture the animal promptly and ensure safety in the region.
