Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University has cancelled the contract of the Promark Company, which was responsible for managing all activities related to university examinations. The decision was taken during a meeting of the Management Council held on Tuesday. The Council has decided to hand over the examination-related responsibilities to a new company, which will be selected soon.
The cancellation of the existing contract is expected to cause some disruption in the university’s examination processes and systems. Currently, the entire examination department operates through an online system—ranging from sending question papers to evaluating answer sheets and preparing mark sheets, all done digitally. Promark had been managing this system for several years, handling crucial tasks like preparing mark sheets, announcing results, and issuing mark sheets and degree certificates.
However, following complaints and discussions in the Management Council, the university decided to terminate the company’s services. Officials indicated that the decision might temporarily affect examination operations.
Controversy Over Previous Company Appointment
Two years ago, former Vice-Chancellor Dr. Subhash Chaudhari had appointed MKCL (Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited) to handle examination work. But the process led to severe mismanagement, and many exam results were delayed for months. The issue even reached the state legislature, prompting then-Higher Education Minister Chandrakant Patil to order an inquiry. After that, MKCL’s contract was terminated, and Promark took over the responsibility.
Now, with Promark’s termination as well, all eyes are on what steps the university will take next to ensure smooth functioning of examination operations.
