Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule conducted a surprise inspection at the Sub-Registrar Class-II Office in Khamla, Nagpur, following complaints of irregularities and corruption. In the preliminary inquiry that followed, Sub-Registrar A.T. Kapale was found allegedly involved in malpractices and has been suspended by the Revenue Department.
The inspection was initiated after the department received several complaints from citizens alleging that unauthorized payments were being collected through middlemen for registration-related services. Taking serious note of these allegations, the minister made an unannounced visit to the Khamla office earlier this week.
During the inspection, ₹5,000 in cash was reportedly found in the drawer of Kapale’s desk. Minister Bawankule immediately directed the police to initiate a detailed investigation. Following this, it was concluded that the officer had violated the provisions of the Maharashtra Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1979.
After the preliminary inquiry confirmed misconduct, the Revenue Department took swift action, suspending Kapale from his duties. The government reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency, improving service quality, and maintaining public trust in administrative systems. Officials emphasized that both the state and departmental secretariats are reviewing such cases regularly to deliver better governance to citizens.
