The festival of lights, Diwali, is just a few days away, and homes are abuzz with excitement, cleaning, and preparation. To double the joy in this auspicious and vibrant atmosphere, Chief Engineer Dilip Dodke of MSEDCL’s Nagpur Circle has appealed to all electricity consumers to implement crucial safety measures. On this occasion, he has also extended his best wishes for the Diwali festival to all electricity consumers, employees, and well-wishers.
A Small Mistake Can Prove Costly!
A small mistake during Diwali decorations, lighting, and fireworks can invite unfortunate incidents. Every year, numerous fire incidents caused by fireworks are reported, which unfortunately carry the potential for loss of property and, tragically, loss of life. Such accidents occur due to carelessness and neglect of safety. To ensure the happiness of your and your family’s Diwali, MSEDCL has suggested some important precautions that must be strictly followed.
Use Electricity Carefully and ‘Smartly’:
The extensive electrical illumination during Diwali temporarily puts a strain on the power system. Therefore, use electricity judiciously and as needed. Energy-efficient LED lights are widely available in the market. Using these modern lights will help control electricity consumption and reduce the electricity bill. Always use high-quality (marked) string lights and wires for decoration.
Safety Rules During Cleaning and Painting:
Special care is required to prevent electrical accidents during Diwali cleaning and painting. Before painting walls, especially when working near switchboards and sockets, be sure to switch off the main power supply to that area. Ensure that the ladder used for painting does not touch any live wires. Also, before cleaning any electrical appliances, switch them off and unplug them. Use only a dry cloth to clean switchboards and sockets. Avoid using a wet cloth. If you notice any damage or burn marks on sockets, switches, or wires during cleaning, immediately have them repaired by a licensed electrician. Wires gnawed by rats increase the risk of a short circuit, so replace such wires immediately.
Safety Instructions for Lighting and Firecrackers:
Ensure that decorative lights are placed safely, away from curtains, bedding, fans, or main electrical lines. Keep young children away from live wires and equipment. Avoid overloading a single electrical socket by connecting multiple string lights or appliances. Completely avoid bursting firecrackers near electrical wires or equipment. Always set off fireworks in an open space and with necessary safety measures. Do not discard firecracker waste near the electrical system; dispose of it properly.
MSEDCL Ready for Uninterrupted Power Supply:
Instructions have been given to all officers and staff to immediately complete the maintenance and repair work of power lines and equipment to ensure quality and uninterrupted power supply to consumers during this festival of lights. Employees in market areas have been instructed to be vigilant and take measures to prevent electrical accidents in public places during this period. Furthermore, all divisional, sub-divisional, and branch officers have been instructed to be physically present at their headquarters until Diwali is over to ensure uninterrupted power supply, and all officers and staff must remain at the headquarters during this period.
By strictly adhering to all these important rules, you can celebrate a safe and happy Diwali in your home. Dilip Dodke appeals to everyone to prioritize electrical safety and enjoy the true spirit of illumination.
