Commissioner Inaugurates Unusable Items Collection Centre
In a bid to promote cleanliness during the Diwali season, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has launched a special drive titled ‘Clean Diwali, Prosperous Diwali’ to ensure safe disposal and recycling of household waste and unusable materials.
As part of the campaign, the civic body has set up 102 collection centres across the city where citizens can hand over items such as old furniture, plastic goods, e-waste, clothes, books, and other discarded materials.

The main collection centre at the NMC headquarters in Civil Lines was inaugurated on Monday (Oct 13) by Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Chaudhari highlighted that a significant amount of scrap, e-waste, and old materials are discarded during Diwali cleaning. To prevent this waste from causing unhygienic conditions in the city, the NMC has initiated this campaign, encouraging residents to donate their unused items instead of dumping them on roads or in garbage bins.
He further stated that collected reusable items will be distributed to the needy, while old clothes will be repurposed into cloth bags, promoting sustainability.
The inauguration was attended by Additional Commissioners Mrs. Vasumana Pant and Mrs. Vaishnavi B., Chief Sanitation Officer Dr. Gajendra Mahalle, Public Relations Officer Mr. Manish Soni, Mr. Pramod Hiwse, Mr. Jitesh Dhakate, and other civic officials.
To recognize citizens contributing to the initiative, the NMC is distributing ‘Thank You’ stickers to donors, which can be displayed at their homes or society gates as a symbol of civic responsibility and appreciation.
