Mumbai: In a major push toward gender inclusion, the State Bank of India (SBI) has announced a 30% job reservation for women, with the goal of significantly increasing female representation in its workforce over the next five years. The move aligns with the bank’s broader mission to promote gender equality and empower women across all levels of the organization.
As part of this initiative, SBI is also expanding its network of all-women branches, reinforcing its commitment to creating a more inclusive and supportive workplace. At present, over 340 SBI branches are entirely managed by women, and the bank plans to increase this number in the coming years.
Deputy Managing Director Kishore Kumar revealed that while women currently constitute 33% of the bank’s frontline staff, their overall representation across the organization stands at 27%. “The bank is implementing various measures to bridge this gap and ensure equitable growth opportunities for women employees,” he said.
In addition to recruitment initiatives, SBI is introducing health and welfare programs tailored to women’s needs, including breast and cervical cancer screenings and a nutrition allowance for pregnant employees.
Through these comprehensive steps, SBI — India’s largest public sector bank — aims not only to strengthen gender balance within its workforce but also to set an example for inclusivity and women’s empowerment across the Indian banking industry.
