The countdown to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections has officially begun, with the draft voter list scheduled to be published on November 6, the State Election Commission (SEC) has announced.
The list has been prepared using the existing voter list of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly as of July 1, 2025, which has been “frozen” as the base record for the civic polls. According to SEC Secretary Suresh Kakani, a separate electoral roll will not be created for the local body elections — instead, the Assembly roll will be divided ward-wise for the NMC elections.
Citizens will have the opportunity to file objections and suggestions regarding the draft list until November 14. The SEC has instructed municipal commissioners to review all representations and publish the final ward-wise voter lists by November 28.
As per officials, only limited corrections will be allowed at this stage — such as removing names of deceased voters, fixing clerical errors, or correcting ward misplacements. The process will be carried out by officers authorized by the municipal commissioner.
The SEC’s directive follows the Supreme Court’s order emphasizing that pending local body elections must be held at the earliest.
Voter list schedule:
Electoral roll freezing date: July 1
Draft list publication: November 6
Objection deadline: November 14
Final ward-wise list: November 28
Polling station list: December 4
Polling station-wise list: December 10
With the voter list process now underway, the NMC election timeline is officially in motion.
