I’m Nagpur Police have effectively thwarted the plans of nighttime burglars and vehicle thieves through a special initiative called ‘Mission Night Watch’, launched under Zone 4. The campaign has resulted in a significant decline in housebreakings and vehicle thefts reported during the night.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rashmita Rao initiated the mission after analyzing crime data from the past three years. Under the initiative, night patrolling was strengthened and made more systematic. A dedicated WhatsApp group was created to coordinate officers on duty and assign responsibilities for each night’s patrol.
One of the key features of the mission was dividing the night patrol into four focused phases. Each phase targeted specific actions—such as checking suspicious establishments, monitoring known housebreaking offenders, siren patrolling, and a special “Good Morning Patrol” at dawn. QR codes were also installed at identified hotspots to ensure regular inspection by beat marshals.
The results have been remarkable. Compared to August 2025, the number of housebreaking cases in September fell by 57%, marking a reduction of 23 incidents. Even in comparison to September last year, there were 10 fewer cases this time.
