The “Swachh Diwali, Shubh Diwali” campaign launched by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has received an enthusiastic response from citizens. In just three days, as much as 4,610 kilograms of unused household materials have been donated at collection centers across the city. This remarkable participation highlights Nagpurians’ sense of social responsibility and their commitment to maintaining cleanliness and promoting a culture of recycling.
The campaign, which began on October 12, will continue until October 18, encouraging citizens to contribute reusable or discarded items instead of throwing them away.
To ensure safe and proper disposal of waste generated during Diwali cleaning, and to help reusable items reach those in need, NMC has set up 102 ‘Donation Collection Centers’ across Nagpur. In just three days, 2,127 citizens visited these centers, donating a total of 4,610 kg of materials — including 2,237 kg of clothes, 872 kg of paper and books, 750 kg of plastic items, 249 kg of e-waste, 88 kg of utensils, 111 kg of wooden items, and 303 kg of miscellaneous materials.
These collection centers have become the go-to destination for citizens to hand over old furniture, broken plastic goods, e-waste, and other discarded items. This initiative has significantly reduced the dumping of such waste on streets and in garbage bins, contributing to a cleaner and greener Nagpur.
As part of the campaign, citizens who donate items such as old clothes, books, plastic materials, electronic waste, mattresses, and glassware receive special “Thank You” stickers from NMC to display on their homes or societies, symbolizing their contribution to a cleaner Diwali.
NMC appeals to all citizens to actively participate in the “Swachh Diwali, Shubh Diwali” campaign and make this festive season cleaner, greener, and more meaningful.
