During peak hours, vehicles are forced to swerve around the obstruction, leading to severe congestion, long queues, and frequent near misses. The situation worsens during school and office rush hours, when traffic volume is at its highest.
Frustrated commuters and residents have expressed anger over what they describe as a clear case of civic negligence. “It’s a mess every morning and evening. One wrong move and vehicles scrape against each other. The DP should never have been left here,” said a regular commuter.
Adding to the chaos, the narrow left-turn space has been encroached upon by makeshift stalls and parked vehicles, leaving little room for smooth movement. Local shopkeepers have also raised concerns, saying that the traffic jams are affecting their businesses. “People avoid stopping here because of the constant congestion. It’s risky and chaotic,” said one trader.
Citizens have now urged the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and the Electricity Department to take swift corrective action. They have demanded that the DP be relocated from the middle of the road to a safer corner or alternate site before a major accident forces action.
As Nagpur’s urban sprawl and vehicular density continue to grow, such avoidable obstructions highlight the urgent need for better coordination between civic and utility departments. Until authorities act, Omkar Nagar Square stands as a glaring example of poor urban planning turning into a public hazard.
