Nagpur:A wholesale watch trader from Gujarat was robbed of ₹2.5 lakh in cash while travelling in an autorickshaw in Nagpur city on Tuesday evening. The theft took place within the jurisdiction of Kotwali Police Station between 9:30 am and 7:45 pm on October 15.
According to police, the complainant, Bharatbhai Shantilal Rachch (60), a resident of Kayani Plot No. 8, Morbi, Gujarat, had come to Nagpur to collect pending payments from local shopkeepers. After completing his business dealings and collecting cash, he boarded an autorickshaw from Shaheed Chowk to Tanga Stand and further towards Saini Travels.
During the ride, an unidentified co-passenger allegedly took advantage of a brief moment of distraction and stole ₹2,50,000 in cash from the trader’s bag, escaping before the victim could react. The trader later approached Kotwali Police Station and filed a complaint.
Acting on the report, police have registered a case under Section 379(2) of the BNS against an unidentified accused. The investigation is currently underway. Police teams are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity to trace the suspect and determine whether the accused was part of a larger theft racket targeting outstation businessmen.
