Nagpur: As Diwali festivities draw closer, the Nagpur City Police have issued a strong advisory to citizens and event organizers to celebrate responsibly and lawfully. The police have clearly stated that no illegal gambling, unauthorized parties, or underage drinking will be tolerated during the festive season.
Senior police officials informed that a special squad has been constituted to keep a close watch on Diwali celebrations across the city. The team—comprising officials from the local police and the Crime Branch—will monitor hotels, resorts, farmhouses, and private venues to ensure there are no violations of the law. Surprise checks and night patrols will be intensified, especially at locations known for hosting large parties or gambling activities.
“People are welcome to celebrate, but they must obtain proper permission before organizing any public or private Diwali event. Strict action will be taken against anyone found engaging in illegal gambling or serving alcohol to minors,” said a senior officer from the Nagpur Police.
The department has also stepped up digital surveillance, with cyber teams monitoring social media platforms and messaging groups for invitations or promotions related to unlicensed gatherings or gambling events.
Police officials have appealed to citizens to cooperate and immediately report any suspicious activities in their areas. “We want everyone to enjoy the festival safely and within the limits of law,” the officer added.
In previous years, Nagpur Police have busted multiple gambling rackets during Diwali, recovering large sums of cash and arresting several individuals. This year too, the department has made it clear that maintaining law and order during the festival of lights is its top priority.
