The Kamptee Railway Station is poised for a major infrastructural boost as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with additional plans for large-scale yard and structural remodelling under preparation. Initially, the South East Central Railway (SECR), Nagpur Division, had proposed a yard remodelling project for Kalamna Station, the nearest major junction east of Itwari. However, owing to Kalamna’s complex track layout, the focus has now shifted to Kamptee, located about 13 km from Nagpur.
Under the revised plan, a new platform and an additional loop line have been sanctioned at Kamptee. This will increase the number of lines and platforms from three to four, improving operational capacity and train handling efficiency. The redevelopment will also include the creation of arrival and departure gates on the opposite side of the station, enhancing passenger convenience.
Though Kamptee lies around 17 km from Nagpur city, connectivity to the station is expected to improve significantly with the integration of metro and city bus services. Meanwhile, some trains are likely to have their halts shifted from Kamptee to Godhani as part of broader route optimisation.
The redevelopment of Kamptee is being integrated with two major infrastructure projects — the third line doubling and the Kalamna-Godhani chord line — which aim to streamline rail traffic in the region.
Currently, three railway lines operate between Kamptee and Kalamna. Trains heading from Gondia toward Delhi cross two lines at Kalamna Station before merging with the Godhani chord line, briefly disrupting main line operations. Once the third line connection becomes functional, trains will be able to move directly to the chord line without crossing main routes, ensuring smoother traffic flow.
Moreover, with the Kamptee–Kalamna–Godhani connectivity, long-distance trains running between Howrah and Delhi will no longer need to reverse engines at Nagpur Station — a process that currently consumes about 30 minutes.
The combined redevelopment and remodelling efforts are expected to significantly enhance train movement efficiencyand improve passenger amenities, marking a major milestone in Nagpur Division’s railway modernization drive.
