The festive season has brought cheer to the automobile sector in Nagpur, with record-breaking vehicle sales from Dussehra to Diwali. Following the central government’s 10% GST reduction on vehicles, customers rushed to showrooms, pushing sales to new highs across the district.
According to official data from the three RTO offices — MH-49, MH-40, and MH-31 — a total of 14,987 vehicles were sold between Dussehra and Diwali alone. This marks a significant rise compared to the same festive period last year.
The excitement was visible not only for petrol and diesel vehicles but also in the electric vehicle (EV) segment, which saw an impressive surge in demand.
Sales boom across Nagpur district
From January 1 to October 22, Nagpur district recorded the sale of 1,29,872 vehicles, showing a strong upward trend in both two-wheelers and four-wheelers. The MH-49 RTO region topped the list with 56,959 vehicles, followed by MH-40 with 48,296, and MH-31 with 24,627. With this, the total registered vehicle count in Nagpur has reached 24,78,780.
Industry experts call this one of the biggest sales years for Nagpur’s automobile market, driven by festival offers, easier finance options, and renewed consumer confidence after the GST cut.
Festive rush on showrooms
Between October 1 and 22, festive buying peaked, with MH-49 alone registering 6,369 vehicles, MH-40 adding 5,582, and MH-31 recording 3,036 new registrations. According to the Vidarbha Automobile Dealers Association, urban demand outpaced rural sales this year. Many dealerships reported long waiting periods for popular models and colours due to back-to-back bookings and limited supply.
Dealers said that if this trend continues, delivery timelines may stretch further into November as manufacturers ramp up production.
Rising preference for electric vehicles
The electric vehicle (EV) market also witnessed remarkable growth, boosted by rising fuel costs and growing environmental awareness. Customers are increasingly choosing e-scooters and e-cars, with many citing long-term savings and eco-friendly benefits.
Experts say the Centre’s recent decision to expand charging infrastructure has further accelerated EV adoption. If implemented effectively, this could lead to a major shift in Vidarbha’s automobile landscape in the coming years.
With the combination of festive spirit, tax relief, and green mobility choices, Nagpur’s roads are seeing their busiest season yet — and its cleanest future taking shape.
