Nagpur: In a major breakthrough under “Operation Thunder – Let’s Unite to Build a Drug-Free Society” initiative launched by Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singhal, Dhantoli Police have arrested three men for possessing MD powder valued at ₹8.73 lakh.
According to police sources, the Dhantoli police team was patrolling the area on Wednesday (October 23) when they received a tip-off about drug-related activity near Doctor’s Colony, DP Road, Dhantoli. Acting promptly, the team laid a trap between 2:05 pm and 8:40 pm and apprehended three suspects identified as Pradeep Purandas Uike (32), Chintu alias Vivek Lekhraj Banote (28), and Tejas Vijay Bhandarkar (25) — all residents of Kumbhar Toli, Dhantoli.
During a search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses, police recovered 10.730 grams of MD powder packed in zip-lock pouches from the accused. Further inspection of their Swift car (MH-49-BK-2767) led to the recovery of two iron knives, an electronic weighing machine, five mobile phones, and the car itself. The total seized property amounts to ₹8,73,500.
Police said the accused were found in possession of the narcotic substance with the intent to sell it for monetary gain. A case has been registered under Sections 8(c) and 22(a) of the NDPS Act, along with Sections 4 and 25 of the BNS and Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act. The case has been filed at Dhantoli Police Station by PSI Jadhav.
All three accused have been arrested, and further investigation is in progress to trace the supply chain and possible buyers.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singhal, Joint Commissioner Navinchandra Reddy, Additional Commissioner (North) Rajendra Dabhade, Deputy Commissioner (Zone 2) Nityanand Jha, and Assistant Commissioner (Sitabuldi Division) Vilas Shende. The action was executed by PI Anamika Mirzapure, PSI Jadhav, police constable Yogesh Chambhare, and their team.
