In a move that could make even Bollywood blush, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to become a film producer — yes, you read that right. For the first time in its 72-year history, the civic body will spend ₹15 lakh over two years (roughly ₹2,055 per day) to make glossy short films and documentaries about its own “developmental works and awareness drives.”
According to the official document from the General Administration Department, NMC will empanel professional production houses for two years to create a steady stream of civic cinema from one-minute reels to 30-minute documentaries. The films will showcase everything from Swachh Bharat efforts to drainage upgrades, perhaps even a feature titled The Pothole Redemption.
The guidelines sound more like a film studio pitch than civic paperwork 4K cameras, drone shots, multilingual voiceovers, editing suites, and 24-hour turnaround deadlines.
Officials say “quality must be uncompromised,” but citizens can’t help smirking. “Maybe they’ll fix the roads before filming them,” joked a Laxmi Nagar resident.
Whether this ₹15 lakh PR project becomes a visual success or just another YouTube playlist of self-praise, only time will tell.
For now, NMC is rolling out its most cinematic project yet a taxpayer-funded blockbuster celebrating the city’s governance, one reel at a time.
